Greg Norman, Golf Legend out with Knee Surgery

March 1st, 2006 · No Comments

GREG Norman will be sidelined for several months after having knee surgery on his right knee last week.

Greg Norman Undergoes Knee Surgery

The Shark, who has endured one injury after another over the past few years, hopes to be back in action in time for July’s British Open, the Major he won in 1986 and 1993, as well as the US Senior Open.

The surgery was a follow-up to the arthroscopy he had last October to repair a damaged meniscus.

“The original surgery went well - I don’t want to make it sound like it was a failure - but not well enough to take 100 per cent care of the problem,” said Norman’s spokesman Brian Stevens.

“He was still having some discomfort so he went back in to have that taken care of. He’s been told to do nothing for a couple of weeks, which is hard for Greg.

“There’s no specific timetable for his return, but he expects to be ready for the summer Majors.”

Norman had the surgery soon after returning home from Sydney, where he attended the state memorial service for Kerry Packer.

Less than a year ago, the former world No. 1 had a major back operation to alleviate pain that had plagued him for years, while in 1998 he had shoulder surgery that kept him out of action for six months.

It’s probably no co-incidence that Norman, 51, has not won an official tournament since his shoulder surgery, as one problem after another has restricted his schedule.

Instead, he has focused on his many business interests but one suspects he would have played more golf if his body had allowed.
