LaRue to have knee surgeryÂ
Cincinnati Reds catcher Jason LaRue will have surgery on Monday to repair a torn medial meniscus in his right knee, the team reported on Sunday.
LaRue, who is entering his eighth season, is expected to miss the next 10-14 days while he rehabilitates the knee. Javier Valentin will do most of the duties behind the plate, with recently acquired David Ross backing him up.
The 32-year-old LaRue, who signed a two-year deal in the offseason, hit .260 with 14 homers and 60 RBI in 110 games last season. He also threw out 25- of-76 of all would-be base stealers.
In seven big league seasons, all with the Reds, LaRue owns a .243 average with 76 homers and 282 RBI in 643 career games. Defensively, he has thrown out over 39 percent of all would-be base stealers in 617 games behind the plate.
