A Live Knee Surgery Operation will be broadcast over the Internet on April 27. 2006. This Knee Surgery proceedure is a new technology.
Methodist Healthcare Inc. has scheduled its next live Webcast surgery for April 27, when orthopedic surgeon Michael Lynch will perform a total knee replacement using minimally invasive techniques.
Lynch will use the Genesis II knee system from Smith & Nephew and perform the surgery with no more than a five-inch cut. The procedure will be narrated by orthopedic surgeon Bret Sokoloff, who will also field e-mail questions. Both surgeons are with Memphis Orthopaedic Group.
This will be the sixth surgical Webcast for Methodist. Two have been done at Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center. Live surgery Webcasts are done for two different audiences: Physicians who may refer patients to Methodist for the procedures, and patients and family members to waylay their anxieties.
The knee surgery is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. The time is chosen to fit the schedule of primary care doctors. If they see the procedure and develop a better understanding of it, they are more likely to recommend it to their patients who fit the profile.
