Ireland’s Paul McGinley hopes to be practising again within 10 days after a successful knee operation.Paul McGinley has successful Knee Surgery

McGinley, 39, had a piece of floating bone removed from his left knee, a Dublin hospital said, after he was forced to pull out of the Irish Open after only 13 holes on Thursday.

McGinley was expected to be released later on Friday.

“Had it (the bone) remained in the back of the knee my recovery time would have been something between six and 10 weeks but now I hope to be hitting balls in 10 days,” McGinley said in a statement.

“There is a 50-50 chance I can play in the Wales Open (June 1-4). But, more realistically, it looks like it will be the US Open (June 15-18) when I play next.”

McGinley lies seventh in Europe’s Ryder Cup table, with the top 10 by September 3 qualifying automatically for Ian Woosnam’s team for the match against the US at the K Club, Ireland, from September 22-24.
