Gavin Wanganeen requires arthroscopic Knee Surgery

June 2nd, 2006 · No Comments

Former Port Adelaide captain Gavin Wanganeen has been placed on the AFL club’s long-term injury list after arthroscopic Knee Surgery on his right knee.

Wanganeen injured the knee while playing for the Port Adelaide Magpies in the SANFL last Saturday.

The surgery required the removal of a significant part of the lateral cartilage and went well, the club said today. His recovery period will be about eight weeks.

“Given the injury and the recovery period, the club has placed Gavin on the long-term injury list,” a spokeswoman said.

“The club has made this decision in order to give it flexibility should it wish to elevate a rookie listed player to the primary list during Gavin’s recovery period.

“The timing of this is such that it enables Gavin to be brought back onto the primary list in eight weeks time, which is the likely recovery period.”

Wanganeen, 32, was dropped from Port’s AFL side earlier this year after a scratchy start to the season..
