NFL Quarterbacks with Knee Surgery

Once Carson Palmer undergoes surgery to repair the torn anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his left knee, the Bengals’ quarterback will begin rehabilitation. He is intent on being ready for training camp this summer.

“Whatever it takes, I’ll be ready to roll,” said Palmer, who was injured on the Bengals’ second offensive play during Sunday’s AFC wild-card playoff game. “I don’t want to miss anything in training camp. I’m not going to. I’m going to get ready.”

Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper and Buccaneers quarterback Brian Griese must have the same goal in mind, as they recover from similar knee injuries suffered earlier this season.

Here is a look at some quarterbacks who have recently suffered knee injuries and how they’re faring:

DAUNTE CULPEPPER, Vikings – Tore the anterior cruciate, medial collateral and posterior cruciate ligaments in his right knee on the final play of the first quarter against the Panthers on Oct. 30. Is expected to return in time for training camp.

BRIAN GRIESE, Buccaneers – Tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his left knee against the Dolphins on Oct. 16. Recovery is expected to take five to six months.

JEFF GARCIA,  – Tore the medial collateral ligament in his left knee on the first play of the fourth quarter against the Bills on Dec. 12, 2004. Signed with the Lions in March and played in six games this season.

REX GROSSMAN, Bears – Tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while scoring his first career rushing touchdown against the Vikings on Sept. 26, 2004. Participated in minicamp drills and training camp, but broke his left ankle in a preseason game in August.

TRENT GREEN, Rams – Tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments and lateral meniscus in his left knee during an Aug. 28, 1999 preseason game. Played in eight games as Kurt Warner’s backup the following season.
